DESCRIPTION
This painting is based on a watercolour artwork I've done en plein air and some photographs I've taken at Standley Chasm, Northern Territory.
I was on a 3-month-long solo road trip through Central Australia and Kakadu National Park in 2024 after quitting my full-time job of 12 years as a management consultant to explore the possibility of becoming an artist.
I was mesmerised the moment I set foot in Standley Chasm late in the afternoon on 20 July 2024. The white boulder with its reflection in the small waterhole caught my eye. It was peculiar how the white boulder ended up being lodged in the rusty red chasm. It felt out of place and was probably mirroring how I was feeling at that juncture in my life.
