This was painted en plein air during my solo road trip through Central Australia to Northern Territory for 3 months in 2024.

I arrived at Standley Chasm on 20 July 2024 and attempted to paint it in oil. It ended up in a mess. The sun was fading and I decided to scrap off the paint and start again the next day . I brought my watercolour kit and sat on a big rock in the chasm at 9am, waiting for the moment of sunlight pouring through.

It was a great time meditating upon this scenery and started sketching and painting the background while there were not many people around... I gasped as the reflected sunlight awakened the chasm in a dramatic moment with cold rusty colour transformed into hues of red and orange.
