Ever wonder how to apply paint boldly to create a sense of immediacy in your portrait painting? Eric has been working on developing his style and techniques and is willing to share with you what he knows. While he predominantly uses painting knives in his oil paintings, the techniques can be adapted to painting with brushes or a mixture of both tools.

Eric currently does not teach in larger group classes. However, private demonstration or coaching can be arranged for individuals or a small group of up to three people in private setting at your preferred location. Please send in an enquiry.

• Portrait (head & shoulders) demonstration: $180 for one person over 2.5 hours (20% discount if more people attending, max. 3).

• Portrait (head & shoulders) coaching: $180 for one person over 2.5 hours (20% discount if more people attending, max. 3). You and your colleagues will be painting a portrait under Eric’s guidance.

These sessions will be conducted using reference photographs. Professional life model can be hired at additional cost. Alternatively, you can arrange for a friend or family member to sit in the session. The portrait study that Eric created in the demonstration session can be purchased for $200. Travel cost applies if the location is beyond 20km from Melbourne CBD.

• A list of colours that he uses in his palette,

• Techniques to avoid muddy skin tones,

• Fundamentals in composition,

• Methods in analysing proportion of head and facial features to better capture likeness of sitter,

• Way to understand tonality and how to create volume
